PureCycle and Emerald Carpets Forge Partnership to Create Circular Trade Show Carpet Solutions with 5 Million Pounds of Recycled Resin
Orlando, Fla. – PureCycle Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: PCT), a U.S.-based innovator in plastic recycling, has announced a major partnership with Emerald Carpets, a prominent supplier of carpets to the trade show and events industry. The collaboration aims to revolutionize how trade show carpets are manufactured and disposed of by creating a closed-loop, circular economy model that turns used carpet back into new carpet using PureCycle’s advanced recycling technology.
As part of the agreement, Emerald Carpets has signed a commercial supply contract with PureCycle for approximately 5 million pounds annually of PureFive™ resin. This includes the PureFive Choice™ variant, a high-purity, recycled polypropylene (rPP) resin that will be blended into Emerald Carpets’ existing fiber production. The use of this resin will enable Emerald to immediately exceed California’s current requirements for recycled content in carpet products, setting a new benchmark for sustainable practices in the industry.
Both companies have already qualified PureFive resin for several carpet applications and are conducting tests to explore additional uses, further expanding the potential for recycled content across Emerald’s product portfolio.
Turning Waste into Resource: A Closed-Loop Carpet System
A central component of the partnership is the recycling of post-use trade show carpets. Emerald Carpets will collect and return used carpet material to PureCycle, which will then process the waste using its proprietary purification technology to produce high-quality, fiber-grade rPP pellets. These recycled materials can then be used by Emerald to manufacture new carpet products—forming a true carpet-to-carpet, circular production system.
This closed-loop model will allow Emerald Carpets to meet California’s forthcoming 2028 requirements for carpet recycling and circularity, which mandate that a portion of new carpet must be made from recycled carpet content.
Scaling Up Circular Carpet Production
Throughout 2025 and 2026, the two companies will work closely at their respective production hubs—Emerald Carpets in Dalton, Georgia, and PureCycle in Ironton, Ohio—to further develop and scale this innovative recycling and manufacturing process. With the goal of eventually surpassing the initial 5 million pounds of resin used annually, the collaboration is positioned to deliver truly circular carpet solutions to the trade show and events industry.
Tom Boykin, President of Emerald Carpets, expressed strong support for the partnership:
“We are thrilled to partner with PureCycle. Our commitment to circularity in material sourcing and usage aligns perfectly with PureCycle’s mission and the expectations of our customers. We believe that incorporating recycled polypropylene into our carpets will not only enhance product performance on the trade show circuit but also play a significant role in reducing waste and improving resource efficiency.”
Overcoming Technical Barriers in Carpet Recycling
Emerald Carpets has already completed successful trials using PureFive Choice™ resin, including Post-Consumer Recycled (PCR) polypropylene, formulated specifically for carpet applications. These trials confirmed that PCR rPP can deliver the durability and performance required for high-traffic trade show environments—overcoming a long-standing challenge in the industry. Due to the complex requirements of fiber manufacturing, most mechanically recycled polypropylene has previously been unsuitable for carpet applications. PureCycle’s advanced solvent-based purification process solves this issue, delivering recycled material with near-virgin quality properties.
Dustin Olson, CEO of PureCycle, emphasized the importance of the partnership:
“Working with Emerald Carpets represents a major step forward in bringing circularity to the carpet industry. As a trusted supplier for some of the largest general contractors and event producers in the trade show sector, Emerald has the reach and reputation to help scale this innovation. This partnership not only expands PureCycle’s market opportunity but also demonstrates how our PureFive Choice™ resin can provide a reliable, drop-in solution for sustainable flooring.”
A Greener Future for the Events Industry
Polypropylene continues to be a dominant material in carpet manufacturing, with few eco-friendly alternatives available. PureCycle’s proprietary dissolution recycling technology offers the industry a path toward reducing dependence on virgin plastic while maintaining product performance standards.
With this new partnership, PureCycle and Emerald Carpets are laying the groundwork for a future where carpet production and disposal are no longer linear but circular—helping to transform one of the event industry’s most waste-intensive product lines into a model of sustainability.
About PureCycle Technologies
PureCycle Technologies LLC., a subsidiary of PureCycle Technologies, Inc., holds a global license for the only patented dissolution recycling technology, developed by The Procter & Gamble Company (P&G), that is designed to transform polypropylene plastic waste (designated as #5 plastic) into a continuously renewable resource. The unique purification process removes color, odor, and other impurities from #5 plastic waste resulting in our PureFive™ resin that can be recycled and reused multiple times, changing our relationship with plastic.
