Harsco Environmental Signs 15-Year Contract to Expand Services with Jindal Stainless

Harsco Environmental, a division of Environmental Corporation (NYSE: NVRI) and a global leader in sustainable environmental solutions for the metals industry, announced the signing of a new 15-year, $150 million contract with Jindal Stainless, India’s largest stainless steel producer. The renewed and expanded agreement strengthens a partnership that began in 2015 and underscores both companies’ commitment to advancing circular economy practices and sustainable growth within the stainless steel sector.

Under the new contract, Harsco Environmental will expand its operations at Jindal Stainless’ Jaipur facility in Odisha, one of India’s leading stainless steel production hubs. The agreement encompasses an extension of the existing slag management services for an additional 10 years and includes the construction and operation of a new wet milling plant—a first-of-its-kind facility in India—designed to process stainless steel slag, recover valuable metal content, and recycle industrial by-products more efficiently.

Strengthening a Strategic Partnership

The new contract represents a milestone in the decade-long collaboration between the two companies. Since first partnering in 2015, Harsco Environmental and Jindal Stainless have worked closely to implement sustainable metal recovery and waste utilization technologies that reduce environmental impact while supporting India’s growing stainless steel industry.

“This expanded partnership with Jindal Stainless represents a significant step forward in our shared journey toward transforming the stainless steel industry with sustainable solutions,” said Christophe Reitemeier, President of Harsco Environmental. “By working together, we are expanding our operational footprint, contributing to the local economy, and empowering the community with new opportunities—all while driving meaningful environmental progress. With this new contract, Harsco Environmental continues to grow alongside the industry and remains firmly on track to double its business in India by 2028, a key milestone in our strategic growth plan.”

Reitemeier added that the expanded operations will allow Harsco Environmental to apply its global expertise in slag management and resource recovery to help Jindal Stainless achieve its long-term sustainability goals.

Pioneering Sustainable Growth in the Stainless Steel Industry

As the demand for stainless steel continues to rise globally—driven by sectors such as infrastructure, automotive, and renewable energy—producers are facing increasing pressure to grow responsibly. Jindal Stainless, which operates one of the world’s most modern stainless steel facilities, has placed sustainability and circularity at the center of its growth strategy. The company’s partnership with Harsco Environmental aligns with this vision, enabling the recovery and reuse of valuable materials while minimizing waste and emissions.

“As we expand capacity to meet the rising stainless steel demand in India and across global markets, our focus remains on doing so responsibly and in an environmentally conscious way,” said Mr. Abhyuday Jindal, Managing Director of Jindal Stainless. “We are strengthening our partnership with Harsco Environmental, an organization that shares our commitment to circularity in stainless steel production. The upcoming wet milling plant, with its benchmark metal recovery and waste management systems, will enable gainful utilization of slag and create new opportunities for the communities where we operate.”

The new wet milling plant, which Harsco Environmental will design, build, and operate, will serve as a model for future sustainable metallurgical operations in India. The facility will manage hot slag from stainless steel production and recover metal content from by-products that would otherwise go to waste. Through innovative processing, the plant will also help repurpose slag into construction aggregates and other eco-friendly materials, reducing landfill dependency and promoting circular resource use.

Advancing Local Impact and Environmental Responsibility

Beyond its operational significance, the project carries broader implications for regional development and environmental stewardship. The expanded site in Jaipur will create new employment opportunities and strengthen the local supply chain, supporting Odisha’s industrial ecosystem and economy.

For Harsco Environmental, the project reinforces its long-standing commitment to “Recycling Today for a Better Tomorrow”—a guiding principle that focuses on helping industrial partners achieve carbon reduction and waste minimization goals. The company’s technologies and services are currently deployed at more than 140 sites across 30 countries, delivering sustainable material solutions to the global metals industry.

“India is one of our most dynamic growth markets,” continued. “The partnership with Jindal Stainless not only reflects the trust we have built over the past decade but also highlights the importance of environmental innovation in supporting industrial expansion. Together, we are setting new standards for responsible production in the stainless steel industry.”

A Vision for the Future

The expansion at Jaipur is part of Harsco Environmental broader strategy to invest in advanced technologies that recover more resources from industrial by-products. As part of Environmental Corporation, the division continues to evolve from traditional waste management toward a comprehensive sustainability solutions model—one that prioritizes resource efficiency, decarbonization, and circular economy practices.

For Jindal Stainless, the collaboration supports its mission to become a global benchmark in sustainable stainless steel manufacturing. The company’s adoption of innovative slag recycling and recovery processes through its partnership with Harsco Environmental will help reduce its carbon footprint and optimize material utilization throughout its production cycle.

Together, Harsco Environmental and Jindal Stainless are demonstrating how industrial collaboration and innovation can accelerate the transition toward a more sustainable metals industry—one that balances economic growth with environmental responsibility.
